Well, prior to the Internet, they started by oral tradition that just changed as it grew. If Someone Important managed to get it in a school book, it was probably incorrectly presented as fact for many, many years since schools can't afford to update their textbooks every time new facts (or fiction) is brought to light.

We humans love drama. Anything that makes for drama will be spread faster. Present it in a movie? It will forever be true because folks won't always read a book or newspaper but they will see a movie about it.

Then with the Internet, well, if you see it on the Interwebz, it must be true, right?

I wonder if all those listed are all actually myths? I'm not sure if I should believe the guy.

Yeah I was just noticing the irony of someone dispelling myths without any source info...I work at a research library so I tend to be rather anal about it, but in a fun way! haha.
