Football and stuff!

Post by Lilien on Sun Mar 17, 2013 3:38 pm

Here we can discuss about all sport news. I will start with the Football (The Real One).

Champion's league 1/8 finale is over.

Real Madrid kicked out Manchester United, Dortmund kicked out Shakhtar Donetsk, PSG kicked out Valencia, Juventus kicked out Celtic, Galatasaray kicked out Schalke 04, Barcelona kicked out Milan, Malaga kicked out Porto, Bayern München kicked out Arsenal.

UEFA Champions League quarter-final draw is done:

Barca is stepping over teams, Galatasaray I have no idea how made this far, if I am correct this is the first time they made this far. I was cheering Schalke in this one. Juventus is good this year, but did they really had to kick out Celtic? No English teams this year, that is surprising.

When the Champions League started this season, I said: Bayern-Barca in finale. For now it does seams this way. But we will see after first matches in 1/8 finale. I think Barcelona will have no problems with Paris Saint-Germain, hopefully Bayern will crush Juventus. As for finale I really hope as hell Bayern can crush Barca. They seam kinda unstoppable this year.

Ok so the first games are down:

Paris Saint-Germain 2 - 2 FC Barcelona Parc des Princes, Paris
Bayern Munich 2 - 0 Juventus Allianz-Arena, Munich

Málaga CF 0 - 0 Borussia Dortmund Estadio La Rosaleda, Málaga
Real Madrid 3 - 0 Galatasaray Bernabéu, Madrid

Bayern crashed Juventus on Alianz Arena. Barcelona Played 2-2 against PSG, which was surpassing but Barca gave 2 goals on guest court, so PSG will now have difficulties winning against Barca on Camp Nou next week. Real blow into pieces Galatasaray, I think that was expected. Dortmund against Malaga 0-0. That is disappointing, when it comes to Dortmund. I actually cheered Malaga here, cause I want to easier way for Bayern later, I consider Malaga easier to play with than Dortund.

Can't wait next week!

Wimbledon - Djokovic to warm-up for SW19 at Boodles
Novak Djokovic will play in the Boodles invitational tournament as part of his preparations for Wimbledon.

The world number one has opted to play at the event at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire in preference to the main ATP tour events held the week before SW19 in Eastbourne and 's-Hertogenbosch.
The Serb first competed at Stoke Park in 2006 and last year faced Andy Murray.
“I’m so happy to be coming back to The Boodles. It’s always great preparation for Wimbledon for me because I know that the quality of the tennis and the opponents is always really high,” said Djokovic.
“Stoke Park is a beautiful place to play and the crowd always makes it lots of fun for us too.”
Djokovic will be joined by former US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro, 2011 Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych, Richard Gasquet, Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov and Milos Raonic.

He could warm his ass a bit. After loosing from Haas last week, he could really use some warming up.

Interesting someone felt the need for an actual logo for this. Feeling threatened?

I must be honest and I know it's kinda embarrassing, cause I could have googled it up long time ago, but in some many books, or posts I saw how softball is very popular among lesbians in USA. I am not so familiar with it. Does anyone cares to explain me the basics and similarities? I thought it is some soft version of baseball, but then I almost got my head screwed off, so I never asked again.

Until a while ago, I was an active tennis player. I still love tennis, watching and playing.

Softball is very similar to baseball. The pitching is different though -- Baseball pitching is overhand, softball is underhand, but make no mistake, these women can pitch up to 72 miles per hour (116 km per hour)! The basepaths are longer in baseball. And then there are a ton more subtle rule differences. It was surprising to me to learn that more men play softball than women! Weird!

The softball is bigger than the baseball, too.

I played lacrosse in high school. I loved it.

But there is nothing SOFT about it. I have nerve damage in my shin from getting hit by a line drive! Ouch.

There is a real insular culture surrounding LAX. I think it's cool. In fact, after I'm done with the YA book I'm writing now, I'm going to write another girls' sports book (no lesbian theme) for Bedazzled Ink's Title IX series, and this one will all about LAX! Fun.

Correct! The softball is NOT soft! Smile

I played lacrosse before it was LAX. What's the culture around it?

We have it!

Borussia Dortmund 3 - 2 Málaga CF.... Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund
Galatasaray 3 - 2 Real Madrid ..... Türk Telekom Arena, Istanbul

FC Barcelona 1 - 1 Paris Saint-Germain.... Camp Nou, Barcelona
Juventus 0 - 2 Bayern Munich.... Juventus Stadium, Turin

Two Spanish teams, Two German teams

Bayern crushed Juventus. There was a time when I loved Serie A but God those italians play a dirty game, so many fake fauls. So many!!!

Galatasaray managed to give 3 goals but also received 2. Together 5:3 for Real, which takes Real to Semi-Finale.

Dortmund-Malaga, that was an incredible match. I was cheering Malaga, cause Dortmund would be a mean rival in Half Finale which they proved in the last 2 minutes of the game when they under two minutes scored 2 goals and crushed all dreams that Malaga had.

Barca - PSG, last week played 2-2 and today 1-1 which makes 3-3 all together but that was not enough for PSG for Semi-Final. Cause Barca scored more goals in guests then PSG.

Now we are left with Dortmun, Barcelona, Bayern and Real Madrid.

I find LAX players to be a very tight group with lots of cockiness and swagger (no matter how unskilled)! Smile

Huh. Well, I only played in high school and quit because I couldn't stand the internal competitiveness. Probably that cockiness and swagger you mention, though I found it in all sports I played: field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse.

I didn't mind the competitiveness as long as it was a fair game.
When I was in school I used to play handball and after that volleyball. I still like watching it.

I also like seeing table tennis and there was a time when I often watched sumo wrestling. Those big fat men colliding with each other had something fascinating...

This is Lisa Fernandez, Former Team USA softball pitcher and Olympian. In her prime she pitched an average of 68-69 mph (that's about 101 mph in baseball in terms of reaction time!)

I just read a story about a high school girl who pitched a perfect, perfect game and it's not her first one.

Story here - http://www.nj.com/hssports/blog/softball/index.ssf/2013/04/high_points_allyson_frei_pitches_a_perfect_game_with_21_strikeouts_iha_up_next.html

Tonight is a night. In half an hour the match starts. We already have one German team in finale, now if Bayern beats Barca (which I hoped it will be finale and not semi finale, but never mind) we gonna watch All German finale in England. laugh

As Gary Lineker would say:

"Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win."

Well if Bayern wins tonight, finale will surely be proof for his sentence. laugh

Goooo, Bayern! Cheering
