Re: Equality - 2013

Russia is in the midst of a violent crackdown against lesbian, gay, bi and trans people - fueled by laws that make it a crime to be open about who you are and who you love.

The countdown is on for Russia’s winter Olympics and, very soon, all eyes will be on them.

The Olympic games are our best chance to end to Russia's outrageous anti-gay laws – but to do it, it’s going to take lots more of us to hear about what’s happening in Russia.

That was very powerful. This is going to be a weird Olympics to watch. I imagine there will be protests. How the Russian government handles them will be interesting. I feel sorry for the athletes. The games should be about sport and sportsmanship. Not about hateful discrimination. If I were an athlete, and this was my one chance for glory, I'd sure have a hard time with it. We'll all have to walk the line of supporting the athletes and not those hosting the games.

That will be weird games indeed. I recently read an article that Ikea had to erase one lesbian couple in their catalogue so they were allowed to publish it in Russia.

That's what I hate to see happen. Sigh.

Here you can very well see the double standards with which society labels men and woman for doing the same thing...

Interesting. Some of the straight people were so uncomfortable, but they came through in the end. LOL

That looked very scripted. The woman crossing herself, the woman saying it was in the bible. Oh, it's a parody of First Kiss.

I just stumbled on a site (http://www.viralglobalnews.com/feature-stories/watch-honey-maid-destroy-homophobes-offended-ad-grab-tissues-end/4796/) with this message:

\" wrote:Watch Honey Maid Destroy Homophobes Offended by Their Ad-Grab Your Tissues for the End!

Honey Maid, the company responsible for providing kids with delicious snacks like Teddy Grahams, has absolutely destroyed homophobes who were offended by Honey Maid’s “this is wholesome” ad campaign. Honey Maid put out an ad which depicts several different kinds of families, including a gay couple. After the ad ran, Honey Maid received thousands of negative comments from homophobes such as “this is NOT Wholesome!” and “DISGUSTING!”  So Honey Maid decided to respond, and what they did will make you need to reach for your tissues! If you like this video, make sure to share it on Facebook and all of your social networks!"

Thanks for sharing that Honey Maid ad, Athena! It boggles my mind how hateful and ignorant people are. Yikes. I'm hoping this next generation coming up blows the doors off intolerance, hatred, ignorance... blah
