It's ridiculous that people feel they have a right to keep our freedoms from us. It's ridiculous that people feel they must openly protest something that has NOTHING to do with them. Although ( snigger ) I have a feeling many of these protesters are closet-cases!

Proofrdr wrote:Yesterday, our Senate voted to approve the marriage equality bill and it will become law effective August 1. Athena and have had a long engagement. It's time to make an honest woman of her! Yahoo

I don't know which feeling overwhelms me more, happiness or anger when I read posts like this. 39 freaking years! My parents didn't even know each other back them, not to mention thinking of me. I am so very young next to this, and I am so full of anger, so full of heavy restlessness, even hate. I hate all those fascistic, homophobic, nationalistic bastards for making me hate them. For making me not being able to walk, talk, love how I want, whom ever I want. For not being able to chose and decide. I am too young to be so full of hate. I am too young to be so full of anger. I am amazed by you Proof, for all 39 years of strength you had in yourself. I admire you and Athena, I admire Boss and Lee for their 34, I admire all of you who went trough hell waiting for that wonderful Yes. I was born in '80ies when so called more Liberal life came, I fell in love in 21 century with a women of my life and for past couple of years I almost lost my mind not being able to legally and rightfully make an ''honest women'' of her. I don't know what would happen to my mind and my soul if I had to fight these feelings for almost 40 years. Not even now I can marry her completely legally and with same rights. But time will soon come. World is changing. And even though there's always gonna be assholes, I will feel much better if I have all those rights as others.

I am so very happy about you, Proof, Athena and you deserve all the happiness that life can offer you and I am glad that you two can finally step on the crazy stone. I am so proud of calling all of you my friends. You are one bunch of strong and wonderful Ladies.

It occurs to me that this time period is perhaps harder for you, Lily, than it has been for Proof, Deej, or me. We grew up and fell in love never expecting to be able to marry, so, speaking only for myself, had no expectations. You, on the other hand, can see it happening all around you but you can't participate. That's got to be difficult. And I imagine it was hard for Proof, seeing state after state, especially all those around Rhode Island, grant marriage equality and not be able to have it.

Good point Elaine. We've dealt with this bullshit for more than half our lives, so it's second nature to us, for Lily it's not. Either way come on equality.

There is logic in what you are saying, Elaine. But back then, I don't even know if I would ever met a women.

Straight people have an easier approach. You approach a women with certain intention, courting, she can either say Yes or No. But for us it's extra difficult, cause we have in our minds by some default that a person can be straight or gay (except if we don't explicitly know her sexuality) and then we face with not only the possible answer of No, but also with the possibility of us being accused and belittled not only rejected. Now when around the world LGBT rights are getting stronger, people are much more open about asking for them, much more open about their sexuality and much more visible. So percentage of meeting someone has definitely rosed. Which leads me to answer you, it does makes me furious that I see things happening around me and not being able to participate in them, not being able to experience the same. And I am supposedly living in country that is quite liberal and developed.

Imagine how hard it was for us back when then? We couldn't just ask because someone might deck you, or worse scream. I'm not saying it's easier now, but I do think women will be less likely to be insulted if you asked them out and they are in fact straight? Of course I could be completely wrong. LOL

Growing up on Long Island, NY near NYC, there were a lot of gay bars and then there was softball - AKA the lesbian network. In the bars, was mostly where you met lesbians back then. Or at lesbian potlucks. Remember those? That's where I met my wifey.

Potlucks were the way lesbians got together. In my time, the 1980s, women would get together, each bringing a dish to share. Potluck, I think, comes from the idea that you don't know what you are getting. The luck of the pot, maybe. It became the signature social ritual of lesbians. laugh

Aha, thanks. We have something similar but usually you let the others know what you bring. Otherwise you might end up with 10 cheescakes and 10 potatoe salads. laugh

And usually the women hosting will have the main dish let the guests know. Some potlucks were really stressful though if the host was a particularly controlling type. You had to bring just the right thing and make sure you'd made (or bought) enough for EVERYONE. Otherwise you'd get the stink eye from your host. Scared

She looks like such a nice little old lady - but she's my shero.

Today the Supreme Court shot down DOMA, because this wonderful woman stood up to them and said, NO!!! Some of you probably heard of the new Anti gay laws in Russia. This violation of the fundamental, rights of Russia’s gay citizens have included go so far that by simply holding your partners hand in public you can be arrested.

James Kirchik critized this law live on Russian TV.

I think it's appalling, and I wish the various big countries would pull out of the games. There's no way any athletes need this crap.
