What Was Your First Lesbian Book?

Post by Deej on Tue Mar 12, 2013 11:14 am

Comments in another thread have me wondering. I'll openly admit I only discovered Lesbian books back in 2005. I had no idea they existed before that. My first one was Accidental Love by BL Miller, it's still a favorite and I re-read it often. Next was Rad's Fated Love, then I went on to buy every book available in the genre.

So what was yours?

I am a big fan of Accidental Love. Very Happy
I don't know if Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Caffee by Fanny Flag counts as lesbian book but I thought I read quite some subtext there.

The first book which was definitely a lesbian themed one is For the Love of a Woman by S. Anne Gardner.

Accidental Love, is that the one where the rich lady runs over the poor lady?

Not a fan of that one.

My first lesbian book was The Swashbuckler by Lee Lynch. Followed closely by Toothpick House. Other old faves are Memory Board by....someone.

I needed time to remember the exact name. I am ashamed to say I forgot. But this book will always hold a special place in my heart. Later I read one or two books more from this author.

I knew I was a lesbian, but I never read a book where the main characters both women were actually having a full time story with happy end or any kind of full attention in the story. I mostly read pieces or books where lesbian character shows up and goes away in couple of pages, or its all about hiding and sorrow.

I remember while reading this book for the first time, I was like... Ohhh, I think these two ladies will have some shmugi-mugi and they are inlove! I never knew what to expect from a novel with lesbian characters. And thanks to this one I found a bunch of other books and came to find a whole new world.

The novel is question is Room for Love from Frankie J. Jones. It is a good Matinee Novel.
