Food Recipes - Care to Share?

Post by Deej on Tue Mar 05, 2013 2:24 pm

I'm not a great cook, and I have an issue with high blood pressure, so I need to watch salt intake. I'm looking for a great recipe, (that's majorly easy to follow) for pork spare ribs. I don't like any that involve vinegar, and I would prefer not letting them cook in their own fat which is what happens when you wrap them in foil to bake. Any ideas???

[Edited to remove the errant apostrophe. ;)]

Afraid I don't cook spare ribs, so don't have a recipe for that. But I don't use any salt in cooking. I love salt, but I don't mind not having it. B finds anything processed or at a restaurant too salty. So you can get used to not using it.

Unfortunately, I love using salt when I cook, I also use a lot of Vegata (it's a special mix of salty dried vegetables). It makes the crust on meat perfect. As for the foil, I usually wrap the meat and leave it in oven for 20-25 minutes, and then I remove the foil and go over the meat with cooking grease or oil and salt and dried vegetables and put it back. In that case the meat is not cooked in their own fat and it is nicely baked inside and outside.

I'm afraid I can't help much with healthy food, that section is my wife's department. But I am doing good with the real food.

Well, I don't have a recipe for porkchop but how about a healthy Ratatouille? Even Lily likes it and she can eat meat at morning, noon and at night.
1 Onion
3 Paparica (yellow, green and red)
1 Zucchini
1 Aubergine
Garlic, Salt and Pepper
2 Tomatoes

Cut everything in little pieces and fry them in a pan with little oil seperately (except the tomatoes).
Then put everything in a big pan, add pieces of tomatoes and let it simmer a bit. Add some salt and pepper and VoilĂ  you are done.

Deej, you could try making baby back ribs. They have less fat than spare ribs.

You can omit the small amount of vinegar and salt used in this recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/who-loves-ya-baby-back-recipe/index.html

I hope they turn out well for you.

Anyone have a good veggie burger recipe? Must be soy and gluten-free.
